A. Learning Progress & Gamification Data (Stored Locally & Cloud)

  • Progress Information: Lessons completed, levels unlocked, XP (experience points), daily streaks, hearts/lives, gems, quiz scores, and achievements.
  • Leaderboard Data: Username and accumulated XP displayed on public ranking leaderboards.

B. User Profile Information (Optional Account Creation)

  • If you create an optional profile to sync your learning progress across devices or backup your data, we collect:
    • Display Name / Username
    • Email address
    • Country / Location (general region)
    • Account recovery PIN (encrypted)

C. Audio & Microphone Data

  • Speech Practice: The App may request access to your device’s microphone strictly for interactive speaking exercises and pronunciation practice.
  • Zero Audio Harvesting: Voice input is processed locally on your device for immediate feedback. We do not record, store, or transmit your voice recordings to external servers.

D. Device, Diagnostic & Usage Data

  • Diagnostic & Analytics: Basic diagnostic data such as crash reports, device model, operating system version, and performance statistics to identify bugs and enhance app stability.
  • Device Identifiers: Anonymous advertising IDs (such as Google Advertising ID) used for serving ads in accordance with Google Play policies.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • Deliver Core App Features: Enable lessons, audio playback, speaking challenges, quizzes, and vocabulary learning.
  • Progress Tracking & Synchronization: Save and restore your learning progress, XP, and streaks across devices.
  • Community Features: Display your rank and username on the global leaderboard.
  • App Optimization & Maintenance: Troubleshoot crashes, evaluate app performance, and release updates.
  • Notifications (Optional): Send daily study reminders and streak alerts if you opt in to push notifications.

3. Third-Party Services & Libraries

The App integrates trusted third-party services that may collect information used to identify your device or provide infrastructure:

    • Cloud Firestore & Firebase Storage: Secure cloud storage for user profiles and progress synchronization.
    • Firebase Cloud Messaging: Delivery of learning reminders and streak notifications.

  • All communication between the App and backend cloud servers is secured using industry-standard SSL/TLS encryption.

  • While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

5. Children’s Privacy

Baro Swahili is an educational application designed for general audiences interested in learning Swahili. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately so we can promptly delete such information from our servers in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Google Play Families Policy.

6. Data Retention and Deletion (Your Rights)

You have full control over your personal data:

  • Access & Update: You can edit your profile name, country, and PIN at any time within the "Edit Profile" section of the App.
  • Account & Data Deletion: You have the right to request the complete deletion of your account and all associated progress data stored on our servers.
    • To request complete data deletion, simply send an email to ahmeyhassan51@gmail.com with the subject line "Data Deletion Request - Baro Swahili".
    • Your request will be processed and your data permanently purged within 7 business days.
